If you love biscuits like we do, you will want to try our Cathead Biscuits! They are our most popular for a reason. Our Nannie made them daily and they are wonderful.

❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

We love this recipe because it’s different but so good! The combination of the maple with the biscuit really takes this biscuit to the next level. We love serving it with a pat of butter and drizzling more maple syrup over it. It’s so good with the sweetness of the maple and the cheddar and bacon. If you are a fan of biscuits definitely give this one a try!

SWAPS

Not a fan of cheddar? You can easily switch out the cheese in this recipe to a type you like. Also if you want to use turkey bacon you can do that too. I think honey could replace the maple syrup too. We use buttermilk in our biscuits, it gives the biscuits the correct texture and the right amount of fat to make them delicious!

WHY MORE BUTTER AND MAPLE SYRUP ON TOP?

The other bakes into the biscuit and this is just a little more added sweetness and butter and biscuits just go together. They are just as delicious with butter right out of the oven and no syrup.

These biscuits keep well and are wonderful heated up for about 12 seconds in the microwave. They are delicious the next day too!

STORING, REHEATING & SERVING SIZE

This recipe makes 10-12 biscuits depending on the size you cut them. They rheat well in the microwave and you can double this recipe if you want more biscuits.

Maple Bacon Cheddar Biscuits

These Maple Bacon Cheddar Biscuits are a wonderful start to any morning. Great combination of ingredients and delicious!

Course biscuit, bread, Breakfast

Cuisine American

  • 5 slices bacon cooked, drained and diced
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Topping for biscuits:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • Cook bacon in a skillet on top of the stove. Drain, dice and set aside. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and cheese in a bowl.

  • Grate the butter into the flour mixture and mix till resembles coarse crumbs. Add in diced bacon.

  • Whisk together the buttermilk and maple syrup and add to the mixture. Pour the dough out onto a floured surface and knead 6 or 7 times. I used a two inch biscuit cutter and placed biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.

Topping Instructions

  • Combine the topping ingredients of butter and maple syrup and melt in microwave. Brush on tops of uncooked biscuits.

  • Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes until tops are brown.

  • Makes 10 to 12 biscuits according to size you make them. Enjoy!
