Last summer, we learned Sony was looking to rustle up a brand new Anaconda movie starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd. With production underway, more actors have signed up to be potential snake chow for the upcoming film.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, Westworld‘s Thandiwe Newton and Silo‘s Steve Zahn are joining the new Anaconda. Also in the mix is Brazilian actor Selton Mello (recently of I’m Still Here, in his English-language debut) and La Brea‘s Ione Skye. According to the outlet, Newton and Zahn are on hand as the now adult childhood friends of Black and Rudd’s characters, who have all gathered together to remake the movie they were obsessed with as kids. Their journey takes them—and Black’s wife, played by Skye—to the rainforest, where Mello plays an animal wrangler. Daniela Melchior, previously of Fast X and Road House, has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
The previous Anaconda movies, which have featured notable names like Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Robert Englund, were all horror films about big-ass snakes eating humans hoping to capture or escape from them. This new film, directed by Tom Gormican with a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten, has been previously described as a “reimagined comedy,” but one that’s still got plenty of big-ass snakes ready to chow down on some humans.
If that sounds like your type of jam, you’ll be pleased to hear this new Anaconda is slated to sssslither into theaters on Christmas Day.
